Decadant & Discordant

I really liked some of the shots from this editorial in Grazia Australia. The mood feels right for some of the Fall 2020 themes I've been thinking about.

Check Please!

Menswear-inspired patterns were prominent in the Fall 2019 shows but buffalo and jockey-like checkerboard patterns really stood out this season in Paris.

Kenzo Fall 2019

The entire Dior show revolved around checks and bucket hats. (The hats were amazing!)

Dior Fall 2019

Nicholas Ghesquiere's Louis Vuitton is a bellwether for everything, IMHO. You can see the checks on the cardigan layered  under the v-neck but it was on several non-knit pieces throughout the collection as well.

Power Plaid

We're absolutely having a plaid moment. It's everywhere. Isn't it always you say? I guess....but whole editorials are dedicated to it this Fall. I love plaid because it always has tomboy overtones no matter what color, scale, or brand that designs it. At Coach I designed enough plaid scarves to last me a lifetime. I have buckets of them! Plaid also says Thanksgiving to me so Happy Holiday!

Checked-Out

Get ready to start seeing a lot of Western-inspired looks. Guess what that means? FRINGE! But also  buffalo plaids and checks, which are a natural expression of the theme. Personally, I prefer less literal interpretations of fashion trends.

The below pieces offer a (very, very) deconstructed approach to Western. The first image also hits nicely on future color trends; colors which are still quite saturated but closer to pastels without the dusty, faded aspect. I am personally liking all the minty, fluffy cotton candy-esque shades I've been noticing (see Delpozo Resort 2019.)  I'll have to do a color post soon.
